Get CAPM certified with your business degree

Yes, the job market is bleak. We keep hearing that it’s improving, but that doesn’t help those of us who many still be looking for a job. The situation is especially poor for those who are ages 20-24. Although the overall unemployment rate is around 7-8%, for the 20-24 year old age group, the rate is closer to 13 percent!

With all these young, educated people looking for jobs, how is one to distinguish themselves from the crowd? A general business degree can offer many different opportunities and positions to apply for, but it is also one of the most common degrees held by recent graduates today. One of the best ways to set yourself apart is through specialization.

Project management may be one of the best areas to specialize in to help set you apart. The Project Management Institute offers a great certification call the Project Management Professional certification, but due to it’s large experience requirements, isn’t an easy certification for those who are new and trying to break into the field.

Another great certification is the CAPM or Certified Associate in Project Management. The requirements aren’t near as substantial as the PMP, yet can still give you the edge as someone who is dedicated and specialized in a particular interest. The CAPM requires 25 hours of project management coursework, and there are courses you can take specifically for the purpose of helping you obtain these hours.

Although having the required hours is important, the certification tests are not easy, and we suggest taking a certification test prep course. A good test prep should teach you the pertinent information, while also preparing you for the type and style of questions to be asked during the test.

Set yourself apart from the crowd today by getting yourself the CAPM certification!
