Steps for PMP Certification

With such a demand for project management professionals that have the PMP certification, a lot of people wonder what they should do to receive this certification. Because of the questions we’ve received, we’ve decided to outline some of the steps you’ll want to take in order to get your PMP certification.

1)      Join the Project Management Institute

This is something that you should do before you even start studying or preparing to get your certification. There are certain benefits that you get from being a member of PMI. First, you save enough money on your PMP exam that the PMI membership pays for itself. PMI member get a $150 discount off the cost of the PMP exam, while membership only costs $129 to join for a year. You’ll also get free access to other tools and resources by being a member.

2)      Get Your 35 Hours of Project Management Education

This is the education requirement in order to get PMP certified. There are many organizations that offer both classroom and online instruction, so choose the method that works best for you.

3)      Apply to take the PMP Exam for PMI

You’ll need to fill out an application and submit it to PMI in order to take the PMP exam. You’ll need to have your education requirement fulfilled before you can apply, so take care of that first.

4)      Schedule Your Exam

Once PMI approves your application to take the exam, you’re going to want to go ahead and schedule a time to take the exam. Schedule at least 2 months in advance so you can prepare yourself.

5)      Enroll in Exam Prep and Study

There are many exam preparation courses out there, and I suggest finding one with good reviews and enrolling.

After you’ve followed all these steps, then you just need to take the exam and pass with flying colors. Good luck on preparing yourself for the exam and getting PMP certified.
